Smoking Links To Baby’s Respiratory Illness
Studies show that babies who were born to mothers who smoke are with relatively smaller airways compared to those whose mothers do not. This makes the baby susceptible to breathing problems upon birth. It also shows that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is most likely to happen to these babies. Smoking has shown to have something to do with several problems among babies, counting premature birth and low birth weight.
Mothers who smoke have a higher risk of miscarriage, stillbirth or giving birth to a premature infant. Smoking increases the baby’s heart rate, which is caused by low oxygen supply in his respiratory system. It will affect a growing baby’s health in many ways. It might result to more problems as he grows. These factors can also cause sudden death because it decreases the child’s ability to breathe.
